OSM donations helping PAPYRUS to prevent suicide in the young

In-line with the guiding principles of Freemasonry; Integrity, Friendship, Respect and Charity it was charity that saw the newly designated Supreme Ruler for the Province of West Lancashire: Very Worthy Bro. John Charles Bicknell along with Warrington Conclave No 119-member, Worthy Bro. Bob Williams recently visit the head-quarters of Papyrus in Warrington to present a cheque for £500.
With John announcing at the highly popular Annual Provincial Dinner Dance in Blackpool that he would like nominations for disbursement of funds from the orders charity account; It was Bob who recommended that Papyrus be one of the three recipients for charitable giving as his daughter who worked in a school had seen first-hand the tremendous work that this charity do in supporting young adults and children when they possibly needed it most.
As a charity; Papyrus Prevention of Young Suicide in the UK is dedicated to the prevention of suicide and the promotion of positive mental health and emotional well-being in young people
“Suicide is the biggest killer of people under the age of 35 in the UK and Papyrus believes that through its suicide prevention education and training packages that it delivers each year they are definitely creating suicide safer communities across the UK.
During the visit Gemma Simpson and Jessica Cockram both fundraising officers based at the charities head-quarters gave an update on the work that the charity was doing whilst in return John explained how he and the brethren specifically hoped that this donation would help towards the ongoing education and training in suicide prevention that the charities popular SP-OT and SP-EAK training programmes deliver.
It’s of note that the charity donations that the brethren in the Order of the Secret Monitor and freemasons in general make each year are funded entirely by its members, families & friends through various masonic events; and it’s hoped that this support along with other incentives will help provide opportunity; independence and wellbeing for those in the most need in our society.
In addition to the Papyrus donation John had the privilege and the pleasure in authorising additional donations of £500 to each of the following worthy causes:
  • Cumbria Blood Bikes
  • Bowland & Pennine Mountain Rescue Team (Garstang)
  • Earlestown Athletic Rangers Under-10 Football Club
  • Springfield Trampoline Academy (Coppull)
